These videos were produced for Regions Bank, based in Birmingham, Alabama. The "Better Life Award" is given to an employee each month based on performance and their contribution to the community and to their associates.
I was the videographer and editor for the project. We worked a 6-day schedule for each video, each month. Three days to shoot, three days to edit. I was shooting to a preliminary interview transcription and edited to a v/o script provided by the client.
The videos are broadcast, internally, to all Regions Bank employees worldwide.
This project was produced to generate awareness of the importance of literacy in the Birmingham community.
I was the videographer and editor for this short documentary. Our budget was very small and the turnaround was very quick. I'm quite proud of this piece despite the challenges we had with budget and time.
The producer was Britt Little Horn Productions, in association with my company at the time, Filament Artists.
I worked for many years as a free-lance jack-of-all-trades in the film and production world. This page includes a few examples of my work.
This video contains excerpts from the animated, short film entitled Henry and the Midnight Dentist. I created several animated sequences for the film using Motion 5.
Collaboration was a short film thriller shot in Birmingham, Alabama. It was written and directed by my good friend, Brad Hodson. Sadly, the film was never finished due to scheduling issues. Such is the life of independent filmmakers! I was the director of photography and editor for the film. This clip is a great representation of the look and feel we were going for.
In late 2006, I was asked by friend and fellow filmmaker, Chance Shirley, if I would provide production design for his sic-fi feature, Interplanetary. Chance's only directive was to create a look that paid respect to the B-movie, sci-fi genre. With a very small budget, that proved to be pretty easy. There were no CGI effects on this film so everything had to be built as practical set pieces. Everything would be used, and re-used - built and re-built, again and again, for the duration of shooting. This trailer was created as an homage to the opening credits from the Space: 1999 television show.
This is the view from my apartment looking west. It was inspired by a piece of music by my friend Stephanie Lee along with Matthew Nurse on piano. I recorded it on my iPhone 5 and sped things up and cut in Final Cut Pro X.
This fun little short was a submission to the Sidewalk Film Festival 8 year promo competition. The animation by great friend, Tony Carter. The challenge was to animate using a still image of the Alabama Theatre. Sadly, I only have a low-resolution example of this animation.
6 or 9 was a fun filmmaking exercise. The Sidewalk Film Festival hosted three 48-hour film competitions each year in Birmingham, Alabama. The film had to be written, shot and edited in 48 hours. Each film had to contain items or elements provided by the festival at the launch event during hour one of the competition. Our film had to include: a blue #6 sign; an object spinning; and a montage.
Good friends, Barry Battles and Griffin Hood, asked me to shoot their short film, Mr. Extion. The film had a great film festival run in 2006 to 2007. Barry and Griffin went on to write The Baytown Outlaws starring Billy Bob Thornton and Eva Longoria. Barry also directed this film.
During the early part of the 00's, I had an office at a production venue in Birmingham, Alabama called, WorkPlay. I was frequently called to be part of a production crew tasked with capturing performances in the venue's state-of-the-art music hall. Here are a few excerpts from my time at WorkPlay.
This video is an excerpt from a pilot shot for an auto restoration show created by a Stage III Media in Birmingham, Alabama. I was the videographer for this project. I also served as art director for the pilot.
Back in 2006, I was added to the Hunter Films production of Kid Racer. I served as camera 2 on a day-in-the-life show featuring the career of young race-car driver, Brad Coleman. My primary responsibility was to capture race-day footage. While this video is low resolution, I'm happy to see it still living out there on YouTube. The show was shopped around but, unfortunately, never picked up. ©2006 Hunter Films Production
Hunter Films, in Birmingham, Alabama, produced a pilot for a proposed series called Get Inside. The premise was: follow a band for a day and get a look inside of their day to day activities. I was contracted to act as handheld camera #1. I recorded interviews, as well as, the band's interactions before the show. During the show, I roamed the venue looking for audience POV shots.
I designed and created this lower 3rd to be used during our live webcast of Live at the Whiskey Lounge. You can check out previous shows at www.liveatthewhiskeylounge.com. I also direct the live webcast using Wirecast and YouTube.
I was hired to create a college submission video for this talented, young dancer. I was given the instruction that I needed to limit the number of cuts while maintaining the focus on the performance. I had some creative license to create an intro that included the required "interview" information about the dancer.
